Coaching Overview

WSC values Coaches as our most important resource. This section lists guides, calendars, and other resources for coaches.

Registration & Conduct

Any individual intending to be a coach, assistant coach and/or team managers must be registered (including a background check). For all other questions about registration, please refer to the coach registration section or contact the WSC Registrars.

Player Eligibility & Assignments

  • Players returning from the previous Fall season need to register before the deadline in order to guarantee a spot on the same team.

  • New players are placed on teams by the Registrars and take into account placement requests. Many requests conflict, however, and it is also necessary to balance team sizes and to place kids from folding teams. Spring players that did not play on the team last Fall are considered new players.

  • Players are not eligible for game play until their age has been verified: registrars will contact coaches prior to the start of the fall season about any unverified players.

Rules & Officiating

Rules specific to MOD (≤ U-11) or REC (≥ U-12) are available for review, as well as a general overview of the governance structure and league/division organization.

  • U-07 and Under - The coaches are responsible for arranging a parents or volunteer to officiate.

  • U8-9 - “Mod” referees are supplied by WSC for games played at Greenlake and Wallingford Playfield. If a referee does not show up, the coach of the home team should attempt to enlist a volunteer (parent or appropriately aged youth) and confirm that the coach of the visiting team agrees with the arrangement.

  • U-10 and Over - Referees are supplied by SSRA. If a referee does not show up, the coach of the home team should attempt to enlist a volunteer (parent or appropriately aged youth) and confirm that the coach of the visiting team agrees with the arrangement. The coach of the home team should also report the score to the SYSA by email or phone after the game.

Equipment & Uniforms

Jerseys, balls, cones, discs, and a ball bag are provided to the coach or team manager at the beginning of the fall season as needed. Jerseys and balls can be kept and used for future seasons or returned to the WSC Equipment & Uniform Coordinator if they are no longer needed or if different sizes are required.

Each New Team Generally Receives:

  • U6/U7: A bag of age-appropriate balls, reversible jerseys, 4 cones, and 10 discs.

  • U8+: A bag of age-appropriate balls, uniforms, pinnies, 4 cones, 10 discs, goalie shirt and gloves.

For all other questions about equipment or uniforms or to make request, please contact the WSC Equipment & Uniform Coordinator.

GOALS! If you agree to return them should you decide not to coach any longer, we can reimburse the cost of Pugg/Hoop-style pop-up goals for coaches. We require an itemized receipt for reimbursement. We suggest 4-foot goals as they are easier to carry around. Pugg goals tend to cost as much as 8 jerseys, something like 200 cones, or 50 pinnies. It’s a big expense, but they should last many, many years. Please return them. We send them all away almost as soon as we get them.
