Volunteers Needed

These positions are open and there is an immediate need for your help. They are listed in priority order. Time commitments vary. The length of term is generally two years. We have a number of people on the Board today who have well-exceeded this, and we are in need of some fresh energy to support your club.

If you have interest in any of these roles, or believe you have a special superpower you can bring to the Club we’d love to hear about it (basic questions okay too). Send a note to president@woodlandsoccer.org and volunteer@woodlandsoccer.org to learn more.

All Board Members and others who volunteer for roles that support the entire club (fields maintenance & scheduling, registration, e.g.) will be offered complimentary player reg fees ($150 value) as a “Thank you” for giving time to the organization and first-choice practice slots for your child’s team. Thank you for considering!

Registrar (multiple positions)

If you also enjoy puzzles and don’t mind a little computer-type work, this job is yours! Join our Registrar Team supporting our Head Registrar using our Affinity registration software to assist parents with registration, assembling teams across age groups and communicating with coaches & team managers about their rosters and other player/roster hijinks. About 30 hours total June through early September.

Busy time of the year: July thru early-Sept

Other commitments: Board attendance required for Head Registrar; not for Assistant Registrars

Co-Lead, Equipment Manager

Help Woodland Soccer Club’s nearly 1,500 players and coaches get what they need to play soccer! This Co-Lead position organizes how we select, plan, buy, and distribute uniforms, balls, cones, goalie gear, pinnies, and… most fun, club swag like our coach jackets and scarfs. The role entails brief flurries of activity for getting orders to our suppliers and then working through the logistics of distributing uniforms and equipment to all of our teams.

FIELD SCHEDULER

This position helps figure out the matrix that makes up where and when everyone practices and plays.  This is a 2-person role and we already have 1 filled, so you will come into this with a helpful partner in place.  We need someone who can organize and communicate (primarily through email) effectively so everyone has a place to play! If you’ve often thought “this can be better”—we have too, here’s your chance!

Busy time of the year: August-September

Other commitments: Monthly board meeting attendance encouraged, but not required; typically second Monday of the month

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Did you know that while we rent our fields from Seattle Parks, we’re responsible for lining them and setting up soccer fields at both Greenlake and Wallingford? We have a team of 3 that do this now but they could really use one more volunteer specifically to help coordinate erecting and breaking down goals at Greenlake. This limited commitment position involves partnering with our other Greenlake volunteer to coordinate, with the support of other volunteers’ labor, retrieving our goals from storage in September and setting them up, laying out and lining our Wallingford and Greenlake field fields, and then checking on lines and nets during the season. In early November, we then break them down and get them back into storage. From our past Greenlake maintenance volunteer: “Overall, I found it very fulfilling. I got lots of steps for my watch to track.” Perfect for someone who’s looking for an excuse to get out on the lake once a week on their own terms.

Busy time of the year: September-Early November

Other commitments: Monthly board meeting attendance encouraged, but not required

School Liaisons (multiple) - needed for select schools in Green Lake, Wallingford, Fremont, and Phinney Ridge

If you enjoy being engaged in your local school? Or want to feel like a modern day Robin Hood, this role is yours!  The School Liaison serves as the personal connection between Woodland Soccer Club and your local school. This person helps to communicate Woodland Soccer information directly to the school. Existing PTA members, engaged parents (or similar), teachers, strongly encouraged (though not a requirement). The primary objective of this role is to build awareness during our Fall Registration Drive (starts in May of each year) helping to insure all kids & parents/caregivers are aware it is time to register. Posting to school newsletters, Facebook (or other social feeds), and communicating WSC info thru the school is key.

New areas we are excited about with this role is to help us find creative ways to engage those in our local schools who may not be aware that rec soccer is available to them (i.e., ESL students, new kindergartners, and new families to our community, and others who may not be able to pay for rec soccer). We have a fantastic Financial Aid/Scholarship program that often goes under-utilized.

School Liaisons are needed for ALL local schools in the Green Lake - Wallingford - Fremont - Phinney Ridge neighborhoods, with a bonus need to reach-out to pre-schools as those entering kindergarten often find out about soccer too late : (  - if you don’t see a school you know listed, lets add it! Liaisons are needed for the following schools:

  • Green Lake, BF Day, Daniel Bagley, West Woodlawn, Meridian School, St Benedicts, Hamilton Middle, Lincoln HS, Roosevelt, McDonald, and any other schools we missed in our neighborhood boundaries!

Busy time of year: May - July; avg 1 hour per week, but likely less

Other commitments:  Attendance at monthly Board Meetings (2-hr mtg) March - June would be ideal, but not required; other attendance at your discretion, though you would be welcome anytime!

If you have interest in any of these roles, or believe you have a special superpower you can bring to the Club we’d love to hear about it (basic questions okay too). Send a note to president@woodlandsoccer.org and volunteer@woodlandsoccer.org to learn more. Thank you!
