Volunteers Needed

These positions are open and there is an immediate need for your help. They are listed in priority order. Time commitments vary. The length of term is generally two years.

If you have interest in any of these roles, or believe you have a special superpower you can bring to the Club we’d love to hear about it (basic questions okay too). Send a note to president@woodlandsoccer.org and volunteer@woodlandsoccer.org to learn more. Thank you!

Volunteer Coordinator

If you are a communicator and a motivator, we need your help! This year we had 66 people offer their time to support Woodland Soccer Club! Though it might not sound like a big number trying to organize and outreach to these individuals is a challenge we face, we need your help! Keep the Club's 2,000+ committed parents informed about volunteer opportunities, both for specific Club positions and recruiting groups of parents for field setup/teardown work parties. Though you're welcome to twist the arms of your friends, we've found that simply emailing our awesome group of soccer parents is all that is needed (and we already have an amazing “short list” ready to engage!). This position requires communicating with the board about upcoming needs and communicate those opportunities, including expectations and descriptions, to the Woodland Soccer community.  It takes about an hour each month, with a little more to organize the fall field set-up work parties.

Busy time of year: Late-August & mid-October (field setup/teardown)

Other commitments: Attendance at monthly Board Meetings (2-hr mtg)

Registrar (two positions)

If you also enjoy puzzles and don’t mind a little computer-type work, this job is yours! Join our Registrar Team supporting our Head Registrar using our Affinity registration software to assist parents with registration, assembling teams across age groups and communicating with coaches & team managers about their rosters and other player/roster hijinks. About 30 hours total June through early September. As our thanks for handling this key function, please accept WSC registration free of charge for one of your kids!

As this work is nearing completion for Fall 2019 season, the objective would be to shadow our existing registrars to prepare for next fall season.

Busy time of the year: July thru early-Sept

Other commitments: Board attendance not required

School Liaisons (multiple) - needed for every school in Green Lake, Wallingford, Fremont, and Phinney Ridge

If you enjoy being engaged in your local school? Or want to feel like a modern day Robin Hood, this role is yours!  The School Liaison serves as the personal connection between Woodland Soccer Club and your local school. This person helps to communicate Woodland Soccer information directly to the school. Existing PTA members, engaged parents (or similar), teachers, strongly encouraged (though not a requirement). The primary objective of this role is to build awareness during our Fall Registration Drive (starts in May of each year) helping to insure all kids & parents/caregivers are aware it is time to register. Posting to school newsletters, Facebook (or other social feeds), and communicating WSC info thru the school is key.

New areas we are excited about with this role is to help us find creative ways to engage those in our local schools who may not be aware that rec soccer is available to them (i.e., ESL students, new kindergartners, and new families to our community, and others who may not be able to pay for rec soccer). We have a fantastic Financial Aid/Scholarship program that often goes under-utilized.

School Liaisons are needed for ALL local schools in the Green Lake - Wallingford - Fremont - Phinney Ridge neighborhoods, with a bonus need to reach-out to pre-schools as those entering kindergarten often find out about soccer too late : (  - if you don’t see a school you know listed, lets add it! Liaisons are needed for the following schools:

  • John Stanford, Green Lake, BF Day, Daniel Bagley, West Woodlawn, Meridian School, St Benedicts, Hamilton Middle, Lincoln HS, Roosevelt, McDonald, and any other schools we missed in our neighborhood boundaries!

Busy time of year: May - July; avg 1 hour per week, but likely less

Other commitments:  Attendance at monthly Board Meetings (2-hr mtg) March - June would be ideal, but not required; other attendance at your discretion, though you would be welcome anytime!

Board Member - Leadership roles

Being on the Woodland Soccer Club Board is a rewarding way to directly give back to your local community. You are helping to run a club of over 1,300 eager players from U6 - U19 from your neighborhood get to play soccer. There is a diverse amount of work that is required to organize and run a club of over 140 teams and ~200 coaches, including uniforms & equipment, field maintenance, coach support, referee programs, practices and games every fall. Based on your expertise, interests and passion we have different leadership roles that our essential to the club. Come to a monthly Board Meeting and find out how you can help.

We have one leadership role coming available in January. Vice President. We strongly encourage at least a two year commitment for continuity, however, for this role it would be ideal if you had a slightly longer commitment. Other roles pending as well. Please inquire.

Busy time of year:  though it varies by role, generally in lead-up to the opening of fall registration (which starts in May) is busy, so April - June.

Other commitments: The Board meets monthly, typically the 2nd Monday of the month 7-9pm at the Home Street Bank Community Room on Phinney Ridge. We meet all year except in December. A simple dinner and drinks are served and we do our best to stay on time.

Social Media Soccer-y Ninja

Like Facebook (or at least parts of it), enjoy taking pics of people having fun, or looking particularly zany, this is ALL YOU!  We have a nascent Woodland Soccer Club Facebook page and Twitter feed that needs much, much more love. And a sad, sad and lonely Instagram feed that has never once had a post : (  Of course, being a good, perhaps slightly witty and clear communicator is important, and admittedly, the world is your oyster with this one, as we have so much potential. The hard part: content. There is a ton out there readily and easily shareable, so a sharp editorial, or dare I say, curator’s eye very helpful. Some knowledge about soccer and what might be useful to coaches and soccer parents a bonus!

Busy time of year: May thru Dec

Other commitments: monthly Board attendance would be helpful to stay current on club happenings (that eventually turn into your wicked-cool posts!)

If you have interest in any of these roles, or believe you have a special superpower you can bring to the Club we’d love to hear about it (basic questions okay too). Send a note to president@woodlandsoccer.org and volunteer@woodlandsoccer.org to learn more. Thank you!
